It seems pretty hard to be fit over 40, doesn’t it?

Well, I could tell you about people like Kelly Nelson and Morjoie Newlin, two female bodybuilders. They’re not your typical bodybuilders. Kelly Nelson first began training with weights in the early 1980’s at age 53 and was still competing in the 21st century in her late 70’s…in a bikini…and lookin’ good if I may say so! Morjorie Newlin was in HER 70’s before a 50 pound bag of cat litter convinced her that if she didn’t do something, old age was going to be a difficult time. That’s when she began a fitness training program that included weightlifting. Morjorie Newlin was participating in
 The End of Aerobic Exercise?
...injuries due to high impact aerobic as their bodies weren't meant to withstand all those persistent pounding on their joints.....And most of them had problems with their backs, feet and hips. However, you shouldn't blame it all on aerobics exercise ...
bodybuilding competitions, and winning, in her 80’s! Same comment…in a bikini and lookin’ good.

Now, obviously, these are special ladies who put in a lot of extra effort to accomplish some specific goals, but it does make a point. Life…and fitness…does not have to end at 40. Both of these ladies STARTED their fitness careers after age 40. Kelly Nelson was 53 and Morjorie Newlin was 72. Years later, both were still active in their chosen fitness areas and still enjoying life as well as, or better than, many in their 30’s or 40’s.

Fitness over 40? Heck, all around the globe, people in their 80’s are skiing, hiking, canoeing, biking. Some, not
Total Fitness For The Body You Always Wanted
...that view physical training as a means to improve appearance... here is a little tip. There is no faster way to create the body that you want than training for functional strength, superior conditioning and fitness excellence. You cannot trick ...
so adventurous, are lifting weights or sweatin’ along with Richard Simmons. Some are black belts in Karate, and some quietly and calmly practice yoga or tai-chi.

As easy as this sounds, fitness over 40 requires regular performance of the proper exercises. Just as in our 30’s or 40’s, sitting in the easy chair, clicking the remote, doing 16 ounce curls with a Miller Lite just doesn’t cut it. However, it is not necessary to pack up and head for the gym and try to keep up with the hardbody cuties, either. It IS necessary to pick an exercise program or physical activity, combine that with some healthy eating habits…AND STICK TO IT!

Even over 40, the
How to Prepare for a Career in Law Enforcement
...to investigate the requirements for a degree in Criminal Justice, and schedule the necessary courses to make sure you qualify. If you are serious about this career choice, you should be aware of the physical fitness demands of almost every ...
benefits normally associated with a regular, moderate exercise program will kick in, but for seniors, some benefits are of special importance.

People over 40 tend to break bones, usually from falling.

As we age, bones weaken, as do muscles. We lose some of our proprioception, the perception of stimuli relating to a person’s own position, posture, equilibrium, or internal condition. Our ability to react quickly to a loss of balance, whatever the source, or to avoid an obstacle or actual peril becomes diminished.

Exercise helps bones stay strong and exercises such as weightlifting and other resistance training help your body maintain balance and stability. Weight bearing and resistance exercises assist the body in maintaining proprioception by
Weight Loss System - European Pole Walking
...time, and there actually is an organization dedicated to the activity - the International Nordic Walking Association. You can find their website at inwa.nordicwalking.com/. Will pole walking work for you? Well, YOU won't know until you try it, but if ...
improving the connections and conditions of the muscles and their anchoring in bone. This training also triggers the reconditioning of the signaling system from body to brain which allows the brain to realize the danger and transmit the appropriate signals to muscles which can react to correct the situation. Weightlifting and resistance exercises can help give your muscles the strength and agility to respond to those signals if you are tripped, off balance, or in other peril requiring quick reaction.

People over 40 begin to lose their zest for living and experience more health crises.

Part of this is due to normal changes that take place as we grow older. Our bodies get thicker and lose
Meet the New Look Ronald McDonald
...donate their services gratis. Of course, the company is adamant that none of this has anything to do with all those unfairly-critical articles in the media, alarmist books like Fast Food Nation, and muck-raking documetaries like Super Size Me. Nor, ...
the gracefulness of youth. Things seem to become heavier and harder to move, and we begin to feel aches and pains that often accompany aging. Some of those aches and pains may be due to arthritis, and other ills may also attack us as we seem to become prey to every passing cold or other social ailment, and also see some deadlier or more debilitating conditions crop up in our age group, if not in ourselves.

Regular exercise comes to the rescue here as well. It can help with weight loss, or it can help with weight management once we get to our appropriate weight. Regular, moderate exercise can keep joints supple, in many cases even
 Health Benefits of Yoga
...of books on the subject and a DVD or two can get you started. However, our modern citizens tend to throw themselves headfirst into new projects. Not only is this completely opposite from the philosophy and aims of yoga, but ...
joints under attack by arthritis. I know about this as I have been afflicted with fairly severe osteoarthritis for several years and manage to keep myself active and the condition somewhat under control by my own exercise activities. Exercise also strengthens the immune system, which helps us avoid or fight off the normal bacterial and viral infections which seem to come our way and which often seem to wreak havoc on the older population.

Even better; regular, moderate exercise seems to be somewhat effective in helping ward off such common companions of aging as high blood pressure, type II diabetes, and even some forms of cancer.

What exercise program is beneficial for fitness over 40?

In the first
Governor Schwarzenegger Issues Challenge to All California Schools' Students
...the nation s growing obese statistics, but a statewide review on physical fitness within the California schools was released last November 2006. The findings were atrocious. The study found that nearly half of the California school s ninth graders could ...
analysis, almost any physical activity which gets your heart rate up, makes you breathe more deeply than normal, and which challenges muscles beyond their normal range of activity is going to be on the list. There are people in their 80’s hiking mountain trails, water skiing, playing softball, weightlifting (as pointed out earlier), or even cheerleading. It is NOT necessary to take out a membership in a local gym, hire a personal trainer, or invest in a lot of exercise equipment and apparel…unless that helps get you motivated. Anything from walking, to swimming, to yoga, to weightlifting will generally fill the bill. There are, however, some simple points to think about.

1. Get your doctor’s
Your Diet as Part of Your Fitness Program
...every day. True, this small list raises its own questions, such as: How much water? How much meat? What kind of meat? Which vegetables are better? These questions do not even begin to address the needs of those with special ...
approval first. “Nuff said?

2. Pick an activity, or even a group of activities, which you will enjoy doing. Don’t be afraid to try something new…take some classes in yoga, tai chi, or even karate. Maybe you will feel better in a certain amount of solitude and just want to pick up a set of weights and exercise in the privacy of your home. Perhaps the idea of biking around the neighborhood or even around other parts of the country appeals to you. If this is a new set of decisions, realize that you may try a few things at first that just don’t pan out for one reason or another. Keep experimenting
The Role of Physical Fitness in Recovery from Addiction
...Getting started and moving forward are far more important than satisfying the requirements of a text book or an insurance company. I strongly believe that the physical aspect of recovery from addiction is often neglected or minimized. It is a ...
until you find what is right for you. You are STILL exercising, right?

3. Put some variation into your exercise.

Any exercise cannot itself provide the three basic types of exercise needed. We need exercises which will stretch muscles and joints, exercises which strengthen muscle, and exercises which improve our cardiovascular fitness. This is not really hard to do, however, and should not take a lot of time out of your life, particularly when you consider how much it will put back into your life. As one example, you could do a simple weight or resistance training for strength two or three times a week, some sort of low-impact aerobics or walking for cardio on
How to Use GPS Running Watches for Health Improvement and Physical Training
...the virtual runner will help make certain that you stay on pace. The third method is for those who need a slower start. Instead of running distance or beating a pace, joggers using this method will jog for a certain ...
other days, and do some simple stretching exercises every day. None of these workout periods needs to be more than about 30 minutes, although a little more time and effort may produce better benefits, particularly once you have trained up to a level where your body is comfortable meeting the demands you place on it.

You are more likely to stay on a physical fitness regimen if you enjoy it. However, things do tend to get stale over time. It doesn’t hurt to vary your approach from time to time in either the manner in which you do certain exercises, or by varying the exercises themselves. While not exact equals, for example, swimming, biking, and walking
 Russian Kettlebell Workout
...liberation is in order. Pavel wants to show us a better way to fitness and free us from our need to spend an inordinate amount of time in the gym and spend it more wisely and effectively, so that we ...
can be somewhat interchangeable as part of your fitness routine. In some cases, simply varying the environment, i.e. taking a walk in the park or botanical gardens as opposed your neighborhood may be all the variation you need to feel like you have put a little zing into your day-to-day workout existence.

4. Start off easy. At any age, a common reason for failure to stay on ANY exercise program is that people tend to try to do too much at first and try to progress too fast. Whatever you choose, your body needs time to adjust to the new demands being made on it, and results will never come overnight.

5. Don’t stop.
 Developing Emotional and Professional Muscle
...physical muscle practicing the behavior to gain experience in a low stress environment. It is like jogging in place in your living room or basement before you begin jogging around the block. You can test your level of endurance and ...
Probably the most important aspect of any exercise program, or any other self-improvement program, is the commitment to what you know you should be doing day after day. A haphazard approach to your exercise program is detrimental at any stage in your life. After 40, however, making sure you get your regular dose of anti-aging exercise is incredibly important.

6. Eat healthy. I try to avoid the use of the word “diet”, and often substitute the term “healthy eating” instead. Diets don’t work and can even work against you. They are difficult to stay on and take a major portion of fun out of life instead of making life better. Healthy eating choices
Why Physical Therapy is for You Benefits of Physical Therapy
...long term solution for afflictions, a lasting cure for those who need it. I am reminded of a friend who had a sore back. Instead of seeing a physical therapist, he went to a masseuse for instant relief. He did ...
will do the trick if you make them a regular part of your life.

While fitness over 40 can demand some of your time and attention that you might not want to surrender to it, the rewards in overall health, fitness, and enjoyment of life will far outweigh any investment you put into it.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Marc Alan Lee was one of the world’s most highly skilled unconventional warriors - a U.S. Navy seal. But on the morning of August 2, the 28-year-old Oregon native was detached to a conventional U.S. Army force tasked with hunting-down guerrillas in a Ramadi neighborhood where four U.S. Marines had been killed the previous week.

When a firefight erupted between the Americans (and an accompanying Iraqi force) and a band of guerrillas, one seal was wounded, shot in the cheek by an enemy sniper. In the ensuing hour-long fight, stretching over several city blocks, another seal was struck in the shoulder.

Lee, who positioned himself between the two men, provided covering fire as they were
 Is Fitness Over 40 Easy?
...the demands you place on it. You are more likely to stay on a physical fitness regimen if you enjoy it. However, things do tend to get stale over time. It doesn't hurt to vary your approach from time to ...
evacuated. But he was later killed by a blast of machinegun fire. Lee was the first seal to die in Iraq. His actions during the fight have been reported as “heroic,” and he has been posthumously awarded the Silver Star to go along with his Bronze Star medal (with Combat V), Purple Heart, and a Combat Action Ribbon. But some members of the Naval Special Warfare community are telling me he did not have to die, with one officer contending, “They’re burning up seal.” The problem lies in the manner in which seals and other special operators are being deployed and for what kinds of missions.

“Special Operations warriors are not dispensable assets,” says Reserve seal Commander Mark Divine, who
 The End of Aerobic Exercise?
...Hey, it's up to your "creative" imagination to come up with "sparkling" varieties..... Would you say there's an end to Jane Fonda-type aerobics exercise? Not necessary.
The seal community is undermanned as it is, and it is the Navy’s number-one recruiting priority.” Divine’s concerns are based on the fact that the U.S. Defense Department is looking to boost its numbers of special operators, currently totaling about 40,000, by 15 percent over the next four years. SEALs, less than 2,500 men, must increase by about 20 percent, and without reducing standards.

The Global War on Terror - with all of its backdoors and shadows and high-tech, asymmetrical, rapidly
Total Fitness For The Body You Always Wanted
...for a body that performs as good as it looks and you will create the body you always wanted... Train for total fitness. Coach Lomax, founder and president of the Optimum Fitness Network LLC, has gained a reputation for creating ...
changing battle spaces - has placed an enormous demand on U.S. special-warfare units. After all, these are the guys tasked with operating in the darkest environs. Consequently, taking a smart, committed young man with an athletic bent (Lee himself was a star soccer player in high school) and transforming him into a Navy SEAL is neither cheap - about $350,000 a copy - nor easy. Most seal hopefuls are unable to pass the entry physical fitness test. And most that do pass the PFT simply don’t have what it takes to become a seal.

The attrition rate is extremely high for seals: A staggering 80 percent fail to complete the hellish six-months of Basic Underwater Demolition/seal training (BUD/S). Those who
How to Prepare for a Career in Law Enforcement
...the kind of person who will be able to prosper in this demanding career field. Natalie Aranda writes about careers. A lot of young people see the glamour of a law enforcement career, but fail to understand the amount of ...
do survive BUD/S must again prove themselves in an equally demanding post-graduate period with an active SEAL Team before officially becoming seals.

Special-operations teams like SEALs - including the super-secret Naval Special Warfare Development Group (formerly seal Team Six) - the Army’s special-operations forces (from Rangers to Green Berets to Delta), Air Force special-tactics teams, and the Marine Corps’ Force Recon and the brand-new Marine Corps Special Operations Command (MARSOC) teams, are responsible for conducting special missions, including counterterrorism, hostage rescues, prisoner snatches, foreign military training, special reconnaissance, sabotage, direct action, and the targeting of enemy leaders, among other highly sensitive operations.

And many of those operations - though unknown thus never reported - have tremendous strategic relevance. “In the
Weight Loss System - European Pole Walking
...University of West Florida alumnus, a member of Mensa and the National Society of Newspaper Columnists, and is retired from the U. In his career, he has held many managerial and supervisory positions. ...
context of Iraq, SEALs, who comprise a fraction of the Navy’s total force, are trained to handle those kinds of missions,” Divine tells National Review Online. “Every man is a critical asset in the war on terror. So to squander a life in support of a general cordon and search operation is just wrong.”

Divine says he first witnessed such misuse of SEALs back in 2004.”The conventional commanders would send a formal or informal request to the JSOTF [Joint Special Operations Task Force] for some sniper team support, and if the guys [special operators] were not employed they would usually say, ‘okay,’” Divine says. “The [seal] Team guys did not mind because they wanted action.

“But a 24-year-old’s motivation, and
Meet the New Look Ronald McDonald
...things for kids to know, so we'll understand if Ronald forgot to warn them not to eat unhealthy food like burgers and fries. "This is just another way we're communicating with our customers on the importance of energy balance," company ...
then the sound battlefield judgment on the part of the special-operations force leaders are two different things altogether. SEALs will always run toward the sound of the guns. It’s up to the leaders to protect them so that they can perform the high-value missions the taxpayers put them through training for.” Former SEAL John Chalus, who had one combat tour in Vietnam and whose two sons would later serve in the Navy (one of whom was a seal), tells NRO, ” seals should not be combined with regular units unless the regular unit is used to support the special operation.”

Conventional units often provide security for special operators, setting up a perimeter around the operation and “keeping the bad guys
 Health Benefits of Yoga
...okay for you to start. Once started, however, be aware that there are people in their 70s, 80s and 90s doing yoga. You will not be alone. The author is retired from the Army after 21 years of service, has ...
at bay,” says Chalus. And of course, special operators often conduct reconnaissance and gather intelligence for conventional operations. Richard Marcinko, the founder and first commander of seal Team Six, as well as the best-selling author of the Rogue Warrior book series, compares employing SEALs in a conventional capacity to “driving a Ferrari across the desert like a dune-buggy.”

It is a “waste of training,” Marcinko tells NRO. “The conventional force commanders use them for conventional missions for two primary reasons. First, they know they have a mature warrior [in a SEAL]. He’s been to a lot of schools, and he’s not some 19-year-old kid with limited training. Second, using SEALs or other highly trained Spec Ops guys protects whoever is
Governor Schwarzenegger Issues Challenge to All California Schools' Students
...strength, and flexibility. Governor Schwarzenegger is doing what it takes to help California schools students become and stay physically fit. If children do not do it while in school, it can affect their entire adult life with obese-related illnesses and ...
in charge of the conventional operation. It’s kind of a political cover you’re thing to say, ‘hey, I sent in the teams that wouldn’t embarrass me.’”

Conventional commanders know SEALs will almost always kill or capture any bad guys encountered. Commanders also have an appreciation for the war-fighting skills special operators like SEALs might impart to conventional soldiers and sailors. And the SEALs themselves are always willing to pitch in on missions outside of their traditional roles. “Particularly the young kids who have just come out of BUD/S,” says Marcinko. “They’ve never been in combat, and they want to test what they’re made of.”

Some seals have told me that actual operations seem not nearly as tough as their training.
Your Diet as Part of Your Fitness Program
...can provide it with the lubricants and fuels it needs for optimum performance. Look at it this way. You can sit in the garage and rust, or you can, as the song says, "Get your motor runnin Head out on ...
But unlike a gun battle, almost no one dies in training, even training as high-speed and dangerous as that of the seals. A former U.S. Marine infantry leader, W. Thomas Smith Jr. writes about military issues and has covered conflict in the Balkans and on the West Bank. He is the author of five books, and his articles appear in a variety of publications.

You may have heard it several times before, that physical fitness is important, but is it is really true? Can it can make a huge difference in many lives?

In fact, physical fitness, even in minimal amounts, can help with a variety of health problems. Physical fitness can be anything from a few stretches to avoid cramping, to running, or even a brisk walk. Just twenty minutes a day, three or four times a week, can make a difference.

One of the excuses many make for avoiding this is just being too tired. The ironic thing is that it can actually help you gain energy.

Professional golfers on the PGA Tour understand the connection between golf swing mechanics and the body. The most notable players in the world have regimented golf fitness programs they adhere religiously too. The benefits of such programs have been well documented in the media. Press clippings from Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, and Phil Mickelson all refer to golf fitness exercises being a component of their regular practice schedule.

The amateur can learn a lot from the pros. They can learn the importance the body has in relation to the golf swing, how golf swing mechanics and the body are intertwined, and improvement in the golf game requires the implementation of a golf fitness program.

Where most amateurs get
Are You Tired Of Hearing About The Benefits Of Physical Fitness?
...walk. Just twenty minutes a day, three or four times a week, can make a difference. One of the excuses many make for avoiding this is just being too tired. The ironic thing is that it can actually help you ...
off-track with their golf fitness training is the components and exercises incorporated in such a program. Golf fitness programs are quite different then general fitness or weight training programs. A golf fitness program is designed to develop the golfer s body around the golf swing. In order for this to occur certain parameters and exercises are required in such a program.

First and foremost the amateur golfer must understand the connection between the golf swing and body. The golf swing is a complex series of biomechanical movements execute by the golfer. In order for the golfer to execute the biomechanics of the golf swing correctly. It is necessary for the golfer to have certain physical
Are You Tired Of Hearing About The Benefits Of Physical Fitness?
...through the day. This is especially true when it comes to doing your training in the morning or outside. Doing physical fitness outside can wake you up and refresh you. Another benefit that comes from such workouts is avoiding muscle ...
parameters well developed.

These physical parameters are flexibility, balance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and muscular power. High levels of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power are required to execute the golf swing correctly. Often times the amateur golfer is not flexible enough, strong enough, or powerful enough to execute the golf swing correctly.

This results in the golfer developing compensation patterns in their golf swing. The result being poor shots and high scores on the golf course. Bottom line is a physical foundation of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power is required to develop an efficient golf swing. If the amateur golfer is lacking in anyone of these categories the foundation upon which the golf swing is being built
Navy Seal Special Operations Warriors, Dead For Nothing
...and without reducing standards. The Global War on Terror - with all of its backdoors and shadows and high-tech, asymmetrical, rapidly changing battle spaces - has placed an enormous demand on U.S. special-warfare units. After all, these are the guys ...
will be insufficient.

Once the amateur golfer understands the connection between the golf swing and the body it is necessary to implement a golf fitness program, A golf fitness program is different than traditional training programs in such this type of program develops the body around the golf swing.

A golf fitness program trains the body to the positions, movements, and requirements of the golf swing. A golf fitness program is not concern about beach muscles or how one looks in the mirror. Rather a golf fitness program has the primary goal of improving the scores on the golf course and play of the golfer.

This type of improvement is a result of using exercise to
 Is Fitness Over 40 Easy?
...to realize the danger and transmit the appropriate signals to muscles which can react to correct the situation. Weightlifting and resistance exercises can help give your muscles the strength and agility to respond to those signals if you are tripped, ...
develop the physical parameters of the body relative to the golf swing. A golf fitness program will include flexibility exercises, balance drills, muscular strength exercise, endurance training modalities, and power drills. Exercises from all of these categories are included in a comprehensive golf fitness program.

Understand the exercises and drills within each of these categories are not necessarily traditional type of exercises. For example, flexibility exercises for golf are less concerned about touching your toes, and more concerned about completing a full shoulder turn. Flexibility exercises for golf are geared towards developing the flexibility within your body to execute the components of the golf swing correctly.

The same can be said about every other category of exercise and drill incorporated
 The End of Aerobic Exercise?
...and health clubs surveyed by IDEA offered aerobic classes now. The survey concluded that the number of gyms offering aerobic classes would continue to decline 2. At its peak in the mid-80s, an estimated 17 million to 20 million Americans ...
in a golf fitness program. The balance drills in a golf fitness program are designed to improve the golfer s balance capacities relative to the golf swing. Power exercises in a golf fitness program are designed to improve clubhead speed. Where as power drills in other programs may be geared towards improving how fast you run.

Once the amateur golfer understands the connection between the golf swing and body, the elements of the body needing development relative to the golf swing, and the components of a golf fitness program. The final component of understanding is golf fitness training order.

Often times the amateur golfer desires more power (i.e. clubhead speed) in their golf swing. As a result they perform only
Total Fitness For The Body You Always Wanted
...into a fluid and successful completion of a task. So how do you train for total fitness? By participating in a physical fitness program that trains the body to work as one complete unit and that understands all physical abilities ...
exercises to enhance the power components within their body. What the amateur golfer fails to realize is developing golf strength, endurance, or power is useless if they do not have the flexibility or balance capacities to execute the golf swing. Developing the body for the golf swing requires the amateur golfer to follow a specific order relative to their training programs.

It is necessary for the amateur golfer to first develop their flexibility for the golf swing. Secondly proceed to increasing their balance capacities in relation to the golf swing. Continue the process with developing strength and endurance for the golf swing. Completing the process with power drills to enhance clubhead speed. This guarantees the effort placed within a golf
How to Prepare for a Career in Law Enforcement
...anywhere within the State. The Federal level consists of several agencies including the FBI, and the DEA, or Drug Enforcement Agency. A Federal Law enforcement position will require a four year Bachelor s degree. Many four year colleges offer a ...
fitness program will enhance the golfer s swing. It becomes a simple process once the golfer is educated on the relationship between the golf swing and the body. The benefits a golf fitness program has upon the golfer s swing, and how to implement golf fitness exercises correctly.

Bodybuilding attracts athletes who wish to maximize their physical fitness in an effort to sculpt the muscles of their body in a particular way. Some bodybuilders train as a hobby to engage in an activity that brings them joy and physical well-being. Others choose to engage in bodybuilding in order to participate in bodybuilding competitions. But in either case, bodybuilding requires enormous focus and commitment to a lifestyle meant to further physical goals.

The commitment to bodybuilding means a commitment to a proper diet and an intense exercise regime. Bodybuilders typically spend most of their time in the gym where they engage in an interconnected program of cardiovascular exercise, core work, and concentrated weight training. First and foremost, a concentration on fresh, whole, natural foods is imperative. In addition, it is imperative to restrict sugar in the diet by eliminating the obvious foods filled with sugar in addition to eliminating processed foods that contain white flour such as white bread, rice, pasta, and potatoes. Instead, there should be a focus on whole grains, brown rice, wheat pasta, and sweet potatoes.

Bodybuilding enthusiasts
 Improve Your Physical Fitness Level
...more motivated to keep doing it. There is a common misconception that physical fitness means running until you are exhausted. That is not the case. Physical fitness involves taking on some type of physical activity that you enjoy. You can ...
spend a great many hours perfecting their technique so as to maximize results and minimize the possibility of injury which can hinder the achievement of physical goals.

In the work towards enhanced performance and sculpted muscles, bodybuilders will often plan and implement a weekly bodybuilding exercise regime. In addition to cardiovascular and core work, weight training is by far the most important component of bodybuilding. Often, bodybuilders will work one or two muscle groups one day and another one or two the next doing repetitions of specific weightlifting techniques designed to boost muscle mass and successfully sculpt the muscle.

In addition to an exercise regime, a commitment to proper nutrition is absolutely necessary to successful bodybuilding. Believe me when I say that if you are facing stiffness, pain and / or possible muscle atrophy from being confined to a wheelchair, you will definitely want to ...
to build lean muscle, bodybuilders must reduce fat and increase protein. First and foremost, a concentration on fresh, whole, natural foods is imperative. Bodybuilders will replace foods high in calories, salt, preservatives, and saturated fat with fresh fruits and vegetables and lean protein.

Bodybuilding is a commitment above all others; one that requires dedication and focus to a lifestyle in line with maximum physical fitness.
How To Set Up a Golf Fitness Program to Improve Your Golf Game
...is a complex series of biomechanical movements execute by the golfer.

We often feel that if we are not ill then we have wellness. I personally believe that there is more to wellness than just not being sick. First believe me that I really do not know everything, we ll leave that for the teenagers. The following article is more about the way I view life and the way I view Wellness. It is virtually all my opinion and you are free to agree or disagree with all or part, but if it makes you think about your own wellness and helps you evaluate your own elements of wellness then it is well worth it.

When I speak of wellness I speak of more than just having a healthy body.
Reasons of Child Fitness and Benefits
...Psychological Improvements Children who experience physical fitness experience vast improvements in their self esteem. In addition, improvements in academic learning and creative thinking have been associated with physical fitness and exercise. Due to researches it has been discovered that hyperactive, ...
True wellness to me includes balance in the following six elements.

First is Fitness. That is physical fitness or we could say physical wellness. How well are you physically? The terms wellness and fitness are sometimes used interchangeably. I would definitely disagree with that. You can have a person that is very fit but quite unhealthy. I read not long ago where a pro basketball player who was extremely physically fit died on the court because he had a heart condition. I would say that a person with a heart condition does not fit being well. He had fitness but not wellness.

You cannot however have wellness without at least some amount of fitness. That does not mean that you
 Embarking On Bodybuilding
...bodybuilding. Often, bodybuilders will work one or two muscle groups one day and another one or two the next doing repetitions of specific weightlifting techniques designed to boost muscle mass and successfully sculpt the muscle. In addition to an exercise ...
have to be able to run a marathon, play pro basketball or even ride a bicycle 100 miles in a day as I often do. That simply means you have to be fit enough to get your through a normal workday. There are many that have trouble doing that, people with what is known as fibromyalgia or those with chronic fatigue syndrome often have a great deal of problem just making it through the day.

But as I said before true total wellness revolves for me at least around 6 parameters or elements. The first we have just examined is the physical wellness or fitness. Here is how I define physical wellness. It is the ability to apply knowledge, motivation
 Improve Your Physical Fitness Level
...show people who exercise regularly have lower levels of stress and are less likely to suffer from depression. If improving your level of physical fitness is important to you, see your doctor for a complete check up. Discuss your decision ...
and commitment toward achieving a goal of being physically healthy and fit. This may require removing destructive behavior such as smoking, overeating, drinking, doing drugs or any number of other incorrect behaviors while replacing them with behavior that is beneficial to your life and living. Physical wellness would be enhanced by improving your diet and your exercise program as well.

Social Wellness is the second element in my 6 elements theory. Social wellness I define as the ability to interact with others, establish and maintain relationships and have friendships that last and improve the quality of your live. My wife and I have been married for 36 years and will celebrate our 37th on September 18, 2007. If you look
Wheelchair Bound? Even You Should Consider The Necessity Of Physical Exercise
...asleep ) that indicate too much stillness and a need for a proper, daily exercise routine. Obviously this situation does not call for registration in a high-cardio aerobics classes. However, many people are unaware of the exercise programs that he ...
at some of the things we have done with our lives you may or not be impressed, but we did many of them simply because we wanted to let people know where we stand and what we stand for. People that are socially well have friends they may not even know about. In 2000 and again in 2005 I did bicycle rides for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. In late 2006 I was injured in a bicycle crash when I had to stop suddenly for a small child that ran into the road. The CFF people in Atlanta heard about it and sent me a get well card signed by the office staff and the coordinators. I do not know half
How To Set Up a Golf Fitness Program to Improve Your Golf Game
...on the golf course and play of the golfer. This type of improvement is a result of using exercise to develop the physical parameters of the body relative to the golf swing. A golf fitness program will include flexibility exercises, ...
of the names on the card, but they know me and Ruth. Socially well people are also active in the community, possibly church groups, book clubs or even the Chamber of Commerce.

The third element in my theory is Spiritual Wellness. My grandfather was a Cherokee Indian. He was not my grandfather by blood but the only grandpa I ever knew. He was extremely spiritual and often told stories. I recently met a man named Eagle Feather that reminds me a great deal of my Grandpa Gus. Of course Gus died many years ago not long after I returned from the Navy. Spiritual wellness means to me to establish your beliefs, values and actions,
Are You Tired Of Hearing About The Benefits Of Physical Fitness?
...can help you lose weight as well. Physical fitness can help you maintain weight and weight loss as well. Just by taking fifteen or twenty minutes a day to take a walk can help. Even if you just do some ...
as well as lifetime goals, clear the mind and listen to your own thoughts. Riding the bicycle helps me a great deal with that. It is said that Einstein himself came up with the theory of relativity while riding his bike. I am not Einstein but I do come up with some pretty good ideas when riding. It clears the mind and allows a free flow of information, sometimes.

The fourth element is Emotional wellness. Some people are on emotional roller coaster. To some degree we must deal with whatever life deals out. We cannot always control what life throws at us but we can always control how we react to it. We should learn how to deal with stress
Are You Tired Of Hearing About The Benefits Of Physical Fitness?
...can help you lose weight as well. Physical fitness can help you maintain weight and weight loss as well. Just by taking fifteen or twenty minutes a day to take a walk can help. Even if you just do some ...
in a positive manner.

The fifth is intellectual wellness. We need to be able to adapt to various situations. We should always be expanding our knowledge. My father always told me that the day he stopped learning would be the day he died. I have to believe he was right, he passed away in 1978, he was born in 1900, and he worked oil fields in Texas, railroads in the Midwest and operated a very successful radio record player repair shop in Ohio. He was probably one of the most intelligent men I knew and he got all the way to the 8th grade in school. He was big on education for me and my brother, and was very upset
Navy Seal Special Operations Warriors, Dead For Nothing
...targeting of enemy leaders, among other highly sensitive operations. And many of those operations - though unknown thus never reported - have tremendous strategic relevance. "In the context of Iraq, SEALs, who comprise a fraction of the Navy's total force, ...
when my sister quit school. Intellectual wellness doesn t mean you need to be a genius, it just means that you open your mind are not afraid of learning new things and never be afraid of making a mistake. Embrace new ideas but question them too; it is also ok to question established ideas. Remember once all the most brilliant scientists thought the earth was flat and the sun revolved around the earth. I remember reading that Alexander Graham Bell was jailed for trying to raise money for a new hair brained worthless invention called the telephone and Edison was thrown out of school because he was too dumb to learn or something like that.

The
 Is Fitness Over 40 Easy?
...beyond their normal range of activity is going to be on the list. There are people in their 80's hiking mountain trails, water skiing, playing softball, weightlifting (as pointed out earlier), or even cheerleading. It is NOT necessary to take ...
6th and to some the most important is financial wellness. This is also the most elusive for many of us. When we think we have our finances under control an emergency comes up that causes us to borrow money and get us in debt. One person told me that 85% of the population of the US was one illness away from going bankrupt. I would say based on my knowledge and my own financial condition that this is probably a low estimate. With the amount of credit card debt that most Americans carry and the cost of hospitals and insurance it would seem that financial security is a very elusive element. It is one we should all strive for none
 The End of Aerobic Exercise?
...weren't meant to withstand all those persistent pounding on their joints.....And most of them had problems with their backs, feet and hips. However, you shouldn't blame it all on aerobics exercise for your problems. You would have problems from anything ...
the less. We should all start some sort of savings and retirement plan. It might be something through our jobs if we have one or if we are self employed we should set up whatever type of investment accounts that the government will allow. We should set a goal to pay off all of our bills and live on the money we make, not on credit then work toward that goal.

There you have my six elements of wellness theory. Virtually everything in your life will fit into one or more of the six elements. You can if you wish also add sub elements under each element. Each of these elements has distinct differences but they work together in a
Total Fitness For The Body You Always Wanted
...Sometimes physical abilities unrelated to strength and conditioning are neglected from physical training programs or completely absent. This is a big mistake... because total fitness is what will provide the greatest amount of performance improvement for skills necessary in sport, ...
synergistic fashion so that he whole is bigger than the combination of it parts. They all complement each other and if you do not have wellness in all factions then you will not have true wellness
